Importance of Theory in Nursing (graded) Develop a brief argument for the importance or significance of nursing theory in the profession of nursing.

discussion week 1 Importance of Theory in Nursing (graded) Develop a brief argument for the importance or significance of nursing theory in the profession of nursing. Use a specific nursing theory to illustrate your points. Welcome to your first threaded discussion! I’m excited to share ideas and experiences with you all in the coming weeks. Be sure to review the information regarding the evaluation of threaded discussion postings located in the syllabus. All the threaded discussions are tied into the AACN Master’s Essentials on which the program and course outcomes (PO or CO) are based. Every week I will post the program outcome that is listed for each week under “Outcomes”. Here is the PO on which this thread will focus: Analyze theories from nursing and relevant fields with respect to their components, relationships among the components, logic of the propositions, comprehensiveness, and utility to advanced nursing. (PO#1) Please reflect on how these outcomes are met through our discussion questions for the week. The questions are not random but developed with this purpose in mind. The focus of this discussion is on why nursing theory is or is not useful to the nursing profession. Consider your nursing career/experiences to this point–then read the assigned chapter in the textbook. Now apply the information along with your thoughts/opinions. Be sure to cite references that go beyond the textbook! In this manner we will certainly meet the program outcomes listed above as we look at theories and their components and how they serve advanced nursing. Looking forward to your thoughts, diss 2 Historical Phases (graded) Describe your thoughts about one of the historical phases of theory development. As you begin this discussion take just one more moment to reflect on the following PO: Analyze theories from nursing and relevant fields with respect to their components, relationships among the components, logic of the propositions, comprehensiveness, and utility to advanced nursing. (PO #1) As you consider your comments concerning the historical phases of theory development, I would encourage you to consider some of the following items: 1. Why was the particular phase significant to the time period and to why is it significant to current theory development? 2. Who were some of the key figures that were present during this historical phase? What specialized expertise and knowledge did they bring both to nursing and to the process of the theory development? 3. What lessons can we continue to learn from this phase? 4. How will the future of theory be different because of this development? These are just a few questions to help to frame your thoughts. Please feel free to go beyond these within your response. I look forward to your thoughts, week 2 Significance of a Metaparadigm (graded) Hi Class, this week’s discussion will focus on the following POs: Analyze theories from nursing and relevant fields with respect to their components, relationships among the components, logic of the propositions, comprehensiveness, and utility to advanced nursing. (PO#1) Demonstrate logical and creative thinking in the analysis and application of a theory to nursing practice. (PO#4) This week, this TD question relates to the course outcome addressing the components of theory and the other professions that utilize theories. We need to consider that nursing is not the only profession which utilizes theories. Many professions developed theories before nursing understood how important they were/are. Last week, the focus was to consider, in general, the impact of nursing theory on the profession. This week we are going to pull apart nursing theory and take a look at how a theory is constructed. For any profession, it is important to know/identify the metaparadigms that reflect that profession. For example when you think of physical therapy–what do you think of?? When you think of nursing, what critically important elements need to be defined so that if they were left out, the entire profession would be adversely impacted? For most nursing theorists, the four key elements are: Person, Health, Environment, and Nursing (interesting that nursing is used to define/explain itself!) So consider all of the metaparadigms (or a different one–there are others) and describe how it is significant to nursing practice. Be sure that you review what is and is not a metaparadigm. Through our discussion we will meet our program outcomes this week to analyze the components of nursing theory. Your posts will reflect your ability to critically think and discuss the application of theory to nursing practice. Looking forward to your thoughts, Reference McEwen, M., & Wills, E. (2011).Theoretical basis for nursing(3rd ed.). Philadelphia, PA: Wolters Kluwer Health. Please answer this question: How are the four concepts in nursing’s metaparadigm (person, environment, health, and nursing practice) significant to your practice and philosophy of nursing? week 2 Significance of a Metaparadigm (graded) Hi Class, this week’s discussion will focus on the following POs: Analyze theories from nursing and relevant fields with respect to their components, relationships among the components, logic of the propositions, comprehensiveness, and utility to advanced nursing. Please answer this question: How are the four concepts in nursing’s metaparadigm (person, environment, health, and nursing practice) significant to your practice and philosophy of nursing? Research, Theory, and Practice Cycle (graded) Hi Class, this discussion will focus on the following POs: Analyze theories from nursing and relevant fields with respect to their components, relationships among the components, logic of the propositions, comprehensiveness, and utility to advanced nursing. (PO#1) Demonstrate logical and creative thinking in the analysis and application of a theory to nursing practice. (PO#4) This week, I also want you to consider how the knowledge base that supports the profession grows/develops. Why? Because I want to consider how nursing theory impacts our knowledge base. To do this, you will have to see that nursing theory is different from knowledge. When I use the term “theory” or “nursing theory”, I’m only referring to published works by individuals who try to define/explain the nursing profession. People like Roy, Orem, etc. By reflecting, reading and analyzing theories, we will be meeting the objectives as listed. So take a minute–draw a circle, and put the three elements along the path of the circle. What happens to knowledge if you start with research? What happens to knowledge if you start with practice? Should research always occur before practice? Remember, there is no right or wrong answers but use the literature to support your opinion as you analyzed the information. Looking forward to your thoughts, For this discussion, answer this question: Experts describe nursing as a cycle of nursing research, practice, and theory. Experts also propose that entry into this cycle can be made from any point. Explain your agreement or disagreement with each statement. week 3 oncept Analysis (graded) Concept Analysis Hello class, concept and theory analysis are powerful tools that assist in providing clarity for our nursing practice. Concept and theory analysis are the vehicles used to demonstrate to others key components of our profession. Concepts are foundational to any nursing theory (Parker & Smith, 2010). They also are key ingredients within the research process. When the primary investigator (PI) decides on the specific concepts to be studied, these concepts require both a theoretical and operational definition. Providing both definitions enables the PI to describe the concept usage within the study and exactly how it will be measured or operationalized. The question is: Are all concepts universal? This week’s discussion will focus on the following POs: Analyze theories from nursing and relevant fields with respect to their components, relationships among the components, logic of the propositions, comprehensiveness, and utility to advanced nursing. (PO #1) Demonstrate logical and creative thinking in the analysis and application of a theory to nursing practice. (PO #4) Key Concepts: · Difference between the received and perceived schools of scientific thought · Significance of theory in nursing · Process associated with theory development · Methods used for analysis of nursing theory and the use of these methods in professional practice Key Concepts: · Process associated with theory development · Methods used for analysis of nursing theory and the use of these methods in professional practice I look forward to our discussion! For this discussion, please answer this question: Concept and theory analysis are powerful tools that assist in providing clarity for our nursing practice. Concept and theory analysis are the vehicles used to demonstrate to others key components of our profession. Which step of concept analysis do you feel is most critical in theory development? week 3 diss 2 Steps of Concept Analysis (graded) Hello class, concept and theory analysis are powerful tools that assist in providing clarity for our nursing practice. Concept and theory analysis are the vehicles used to demonstrate to others key components of our profession. The steps for conducting a concept analysis are as follows: 1) Select a concept; 2) determine the purposes of the analysis; 3) identify all uses of the concept; 4) define attributes; 5) identify a model case of the concept; 6) identify consequences of the concept; and 7) define empirical references of the concept (Walker & Avant, 2010). This particular thread addresses the following PO: Demonstrate logical and creative thinking in the analysis and application of a theory to nursing practice. (PO #4) Key Concepts: · Process associated with theory development · Methods used for analysis of nursing theory and the use of these methods in professional practice. I look forward to reading your responses! Dr. Bonney Reference McEwen, M., & Wills, E. (2011).Theoretical basis for nursing(3rd ed.). Philadelphia, PA: Wolters Kluwer Health. For this discussion, please answer this question: Provide a brief example of a concept to analyze in our nursing profession (e.g., caring, healing, comfort, diversity). Briefly outline the steps in the analysis of this concept. week 4 Connection Between Theory and Practice (graded) Hello Class, Our Course Objectives (CO) for this week and corresponding MSN Program Objective (PO) are: Analyze theories from nursing and relevant fields with respect to their components, relationships among the components, logic of the propositions, comprehensiveness, and utility to advanced nursing. (PO #1) Examine instances where theory is used to guide the development of new knowledge and implementation of evidence-based practice. (PO #6). Grand theories are more abstract or general in nature and middle-range theories that are more specific in nature. What relationship(s) do you find between grand nursing theories and clinical practice? Provide one example that uses a specific grand theory to support your views. I look forward to reading your examples! For this week’s discussion, please answer this question: What relationship(s) do you find between grand nursing theories and application to clinical practice? Provide one example that uses a specific grand range theory to support your views. Viewpoints on Theory (graded) Hello Class, Our Course Objectives (CO) for this week and corresponding MSN Program Objective (PO) are: Analyze theories from nursing and relevant fields with respect to their components, relationships among the components, logic of the propositions, comprehensiveness, and utility to advanced nursing. (PO #1) Examine instances where theory is used to guide the development of new knowledge and implementation of evidence-based practice. (PO #6). In our readings we have found middle range nursing theories to be less abstract than grand theories. The decrease in abstraction of the middle-range nursing theory lends itself to the development of a hypothesis or scientific testing. With this in mind, we can imagine that middle-range nursing theories could more easily demonstrate a relationship to evidence-based practice. An example of a middle-range theory is Swanson’s theory of caring. This theory assists nurses in the process for research studies (McEwen & Wllis, 2011). Evidenced-based practice (EBP) links evidence to clinical practice. EBP incorporates research into clinical practice. What relationships do you find between middle-range nursing theories and evidence-based practice? Provide one example of a middle range theory to support your views. Looking forward to your examples! Please answer this question for this discussion: What relationship(s) do you find between middle-range nursing theories and evidence-based practice? Provide one example that uses a specific middle-range theory to support your views. week 5 Borrowed Theories (graded) Greetings Class, Moving right along into week 5: This week our discussion addresses the following PO: Analyze theories from nursing and relevant fields with respect to their components, relationships among the components, logic of the propositions, comprehensiveness, and utility to advanced nursing. (PO #1) Key Concepts: · Scope of borrowed theories and their application to the nursing profession · Categories commonly used to organize nursing theories and how a theory fits into the category This is our question: Nursing makes use of theories from other disciplines (aka., borrowed theories). How does using borrowed theory support the development of nursing theory? Looking forward to our discussion! For this discussion, please answer this question: Nursing makes use of theories from other disciplines (a.k.a., borrowed theories). How does using borrowed theory support the development of nursing theory?
