Criminal Justice Intro to Social Science

My question for discussion this week centers on whether or not a pro-arrest policy in a police department is a good idea.  Will domestic abuse go down if we arrest the perpetrators or will it just escalate the problem because once the person gets out of jail, they are pissed and will probably beat their spouse even worse when they get home because they called the police.  Your thoughts on this very serious problem in America.

Pro-arrest

I feel that most times an arrest in domestic violence cases should be done in order to de-fuse the situation. If the police office who is called to the scene determines that both parties are at fault then in that type of case they should both be taken into custody.  I can see the point about the post release abuse, but that is just one of those unfortunate things that happen from time to time, it’s like telling someone to just get a restraining order and you’ll be safe.  I feel that in many cases just arresting one of the parties’ does help but then again the other person turns around and refuses to press charges and then the courts waste hard earned tax dollars true the simple act of removing one of them from the situation may be the one thing that saves their life. I hate the cases where an officer shows up on the scene and the victim is trying to cover for the other person because they have since made up.
